Maroa-Forsyth Intermediate School
met graduating from Eastern [linois University in November of 1972, I started my teaching
Cc r in the Atwood-Hammond School District as a 5"" grade teacher. (I was ecstatic to
finally get to be a TEAC HER)! I taught in the Abwood Hammond School District f for a total of
17 years: “9” as as" grade teacher, “7” asaz" “ orade teacher and “1” as a 2™ "grade teacher. In
1990, I went to Washington Elementary School in Decatur, where I taught 4'" grade for 1 year.
Next, it was on to Eastern Illinois University - for the next 5 years, where I taught a methods
course for Elementary teachers, as well as supervised student teachers in the Decatur area. |
became the Elementary Principal in the Meridian School District (Blue Mound Grade School)
in 1995 and stayed there until 1997. From there I came to my present and most favorite
“home” --- that of the Maroa-Forsyth School District. I began my Principal duties in 1997 at
Maroa Grade School and stayed until its closing in 2oo4. From there, I came to the Grade
School in Foreyth where I have piniasieinhaned enjoyed the students, parents, and faculty for
' . ; the past 3 years.
As I've had the awesome privilege of meeting
and working with some phenomenal
“volunteers” in the Maroa-Forsyth School
| District - my plan is to, likewise, become a
volunteer who can assist those struggling
students with Reading and Math skills. I thank
my students, staff, and parents for all of the
trust, respect, support, and kindness that has
been shown to me in my time as Principal. I
am grateful for the opportunities, as well as the
many fond memories that I take with me.

Retirement thoughts...
I have been go very fortunate. I have been able to work at a vocation, not just a “job”. I have
enjoyed so much working with all the teachers, staff, and students over the past 35 years:
beginning in Grade 5 at Maroa Grade and ending my career as Computer Facilitator in Grades 1-6
Teaching is never boring!! It has a seemingly endless supply of challenges and little can match
that feeling of accomplishment derived from helping students learn and succeed.
eee , For my retirement, I plan to travel,
read, continue to learn - especially with
computers, volunteer, substitute, and enjoy
my family and friends. However, I will truly
i ; miss everyone here in the Maroa-Forsyth
ee a School District.
cs is
It hag been my pleagure to work with students in the Maroa Forsyth School District for the
past twenty eight years. I will take with me the memories of unique, unusual, stimulating, and
or silly speech activities that I have shared with approximately 1000 students. Thank you fort
good. memories. Vag lett bles.
Twenty-nine years ago I came to Forsyth Grade School after having taught in Nebraska and
Ohio. When I started I was the only first grade teacher...now there are five! This building housed K-
6 with around 140 students, Now we are K-3 and have 355 students. We had no library, no mall, no
PE teacher, no restaurants, no gas station, no park, and the only baseball diamonds were at the
school. The only additions in Forsyth were Forsyth Estates (known then as the Hobbs Addition),
Montezuma Hills, Woodland Hills, and Stevens Creek. Talk about change!!
Since coming here I had over 600 students, 17 student, teachers, worked with two different
principals, and been fortunate to work alongside some really great teachers. I had the joy of having
my own children attend and graduate from this school district.
Although much has changed, some things have remained the same: [ve always had great
=e ruM e — students and amazing parental
he ge? m support. Students did and still do
rise to the high levels of
expectations I've always had for
them. I have been blessed to not
only have spent most of my
career here but have lived in this
community where J call so many
“friend” . I leave with great
memories and a wish for
continued success for this school.
I will miss being here.
Hatha Farrah
Mapp erage,
Looking back at my time at “Forsyth Grade School” my first thought is that there have been so
many changes. I] have gone from a mom of two small children to a Grandma with two grown
children, one in California and one in Okinawa, Japan.
My family moved to the Maroa-Forsyth District when my daughter was in Kindergarten. I
started as a volunteer mom helping teach a PE program (No Mr. Martin). I then started subbing and
became an aid for Mrs. Beal for a year before being hired to teach F irst Grade. I then moved to
Third Grade for the next year. After about three years I moved to Kindergarten, I was lucky
enough to have the first all day Kindergarten clase at Forsyth with only 18 children.
There have been so many teachers who have helped me throughout my career. They have made
me a better teacher and person. The administration has been wonderful. I always felt like they
were behind me lending support and allowing me to try new ideas and programs.
The parents have been very supportive, helpful in the classroom, and by the way they have
raised their child. The children have been at times my lifeline and strength. Their smiles and sad
faces have made me a better more understanding person and teacher. I love to see their faces light
up when they have done something by themselves for the first time. They tell all but I hope by
listening I have heen able to help and encourage them.
I panic when I see my “little people” behind the wheel of a car, on the sports field, at the
McDonalds drive through window, at school musicals or with their husband or wife and maybe a
